Joachim Weickert of Saarland University is the 2016 recipient of the Jean Kuntzmann Prize, awarded by LabEx PERSYVAL and the Jean Kuntzmann Laboratory.
The Jean Kuntzmann Prize Award Ceremony will take place in the auditorium of the Musée de Grenoble on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. It will be followed by the lecture "Image Compression with Differential Equations," which Joachim Weickert will have the honor of presenting.

During his visit to Grenoble, Joachim Weickert will give a series of lectures on the academic field in Room I of the IRMA Tower from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on April 11, 12, and 13, 2016:

About the Jean Kuntzmann Prize
Established in honor of Professor Jean Kuntzmann, a pioneer in the digital sciences who had a profound impact on the development of applied mathematics and computer science, this award recognizes exceptional researchers or faculty members whose work, drawing on mathematics and computer science, transcends disciplinary and thematic boundaries and demonstrates a keen awareness of practical and societal implications.

Biography
Joachim Weickert is a professor of mathematics and computer science at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, where he has headed the Mathematical Image Analysis Group since 2001.
He holds a PhD in mathematics from the University of Kaiserslautern (1996) and a habilitation from the University of Mannheim (2001).
His research focuses on image processing, computer vision, and scientific computing.
He has developed highly efficient mathematical models and numerical algorithms for image restoration, segmentation, compression, and stereo reconstruction, as well as for optical flow calculation and signal processing techniques for tensor fields. These tools have found applications in industry and medical imaging, among other fields, leading Professor Weickert to establish interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in the departments of medicine, bioinformatics, pharmacy, physics, mechanical engineering, and mechatronics.
Professor Weickert is the author of nearly 300 publications and has received over 19,000 citations and delivered more than 160 invited lectures. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision and a member of the editorial board of nine other journals. His work has earned him several scientific awards, including Germany’s most prestigious research honor, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize.
